Shrewsbury, Shropshire England (HE19500)

We have a new house, built in 2011, in a pleasant, quiet, residential neighbourhood. It has two double bedrooms, one single bedroom, 2.5 bathrooms, a lovely family kitchen, lounge and a small garden. Bicycles are available and there are some pretty cycling routes along the River Severn. Our house is about 10 minutes walk from the river and 12-15 minutes walk to the centre of town.

Shrewsbury is a lively market town with lots of historic architecture. There are many small shops, a castle, an abbey, a wonderful theatre, cinemas and a swimming pool complex.

It also makes a great base for exploring Wales and the Marches (England/Wales border area) and the English Midlands. It is within easy reach of Birmingham International Airport (1 hour by direct train).

Shropshire itself is a gently rural county and has wonderful walking with the Shropshire hills on our doorstep and wilder Welsh hill-walking within half an hour's drive.

Other readily available sports include cycling, golf, horse-riding, fishing and canoeing on the River Severn.

There are old Roman sites close by, lots of historic houses (such as the National Trust property Attingham Park) and castles, as well as the village of Ironbridge - the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. (http://www.visitironbridge.co.uk/)
