Out Lying Island, Hong Kong (HE26119)

From the far maddening crowds of Hong Kong on an outlying island called "Peng Chau" lies a peaceful 1 bedroom haven complete with lovely seaviews and garden. This retreat is small but compact with a double bedroom, lounge/dining room, kitchen, bathroom, study/dressing room plus rooftop perfect for BBQ's and just sitting out on balmy evening with a gin and tonic.

Hong Kong is 35 minutes away by slow ferry, 25 minutes by fast with a timetable that allows one constant access to Kowloon, Central and the Casino City of Macau and the train to China.

Peng Chau is unique. Steeped in Chinese Cuture, a quaint market, a modern supermarket, good local restaurants, plus Thai and French cuisine. Disneyland is nearby on Lantau Island as is the Airport and Discovery Bay Golf Course for keen golfers. As there is no traffic on the island a very rare feature for HK, Peng Chau offers a green environment. One can enjoy lovely walks in amongst the villages and gardens, take a swim at several beaches on the island and visit the many temples.

Margarette and Alan lived and worked in Hong Kong for 38 years and recently retired overseas but have kept our "sanctuary" on Peng Chau which we escape to during the winter months. Hong Kong lends itself as a springboard to visit others countries in Asia which we love to explore.

Living on an island is a unique experience and we have become part of the community here on the island and have learnt so much about the different festivals held throughout the year than we ever have before. It has been a wonderful window into not only the culture but also to become part of a community and not the expatriate who is transient.

Alan a retired Advertising and Event Marketing Executive was part of the team for the Chinese Handover in 1997 which was a wonderful experience. Margarette a Complementary Practitioner, Reiki Master and now a Tai Chi Instructor has reaped the benefits of living and working in Asia for and with her work.

The call of travelling is still very much "our life" and plan to spend 5-6 months fulfilling and crossing off places we have yet to experience in 2012.
