Spacious 1-bedroom flat in 1938-built villa with large balcony, garden and BBQ area in historic ''functionalist'' area near Barrandov Film Studios.

Very recently renovated small kitchen (2015) with dishwasher, gas stove, electric oven next to dining room with parquet floor. Bathroom with shower/bath, large hall opening onto balcony with geranium window boxes in the summer. Large living room with work/study area and large double bedroom with plenty of wardrobes, new curtains and mattress (2015).

Only 20-25 minutes to the heart of Prague, city of 100 spires and the''Paris of Central Europe'', a picturesque and cultural city with a fantastic public transport system, with trams running all night long.

Prague is home to many theatres, concert venues and art galleries. The best time for catching classical music concerts and opera is between late Sept./early Oct and late May/early June. During the summer months, there are many regional music and arts festivals, but in Prague ''normal cultural activities'' grind to a halt with mostly only the tourist concerts etc remaining.

The Czech Republic is home to more than 300 castles plus numerous spa towns, the most famous of which is probably Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad), which hosts an A-list International Film Festival in early July. See this link: https://www.karlovyvary.cz/en

You'll find that most people speak English in Prague so language is not a barrier. This is also the case in the tourist regions and towns too.

For wine lovers, a visit to the wine-growing area of South Moravia is a must! For the more energetic, there are cycling wine trails.

Prague is also a great base for exploring other parts of Europe with Berlin, Vienna and Budapest only a train or bus ride away plus there are loads of flights to destinations throughout Europe.
Here's the link for Student Agency, which is a reputable travel agency that also has its own bus line. We booked a number of flights through the agency.

About the location

Barrandov is an interesting area of Prague most famous for the Barrandov Film Studios, which were established in 1927 by Milos Havel, the uncle of former dissident, playwright and first President of (then) Czechoslovakia after the Velvet Revolution of 1989 (as well as first President of the Czech Republic after the ''Velvet Divorce'' of 1 January, 1993 when Czechoslovakia divided into the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic).

The Barrandov area is also known for its ''First Republic (1918-1938)'' and functionalist architecture and it is designated an area of ''historic importance'' because of this. Incidentally, the main entrance of the film studios are at the end of our street.

For more info. about the film studios and the history of the area, see this link:

Another good thing about Barrandov is that there are lots of trees and because it's on a hill, the air is much fresher here than down in the valley where the centre and Novy Smichov are located.

It's about 20-25 minutes to the centre by public transport. There's a bus stop about 200 metres from our place. And if you want to enjoy the night life of Prague, the tram is a 12-15minute walk away.

A local shop, which is open 7 days a week from 7am - 9pm is also 200 metres away. The nearest supermarket is about 10 mins walk. There is a restaurant / pub attached to Barrandov Studios and a suburban shopping area with another supermarket, pub, cafe etc about 15 mins walk away. If you want to sample the ''typical Prague cafes and pubs'', then you need to go to Smichov, the centre (for example, near Charles Square) or you can do the ''tourist thing'' and sit in an outdoor cafe in the Old Town Square where you will find much higher prices than in other parts of the city or try leafy Vinohrady, Zizkov, some parts of Mala Strana, Holesovice.

There are also nice walks in the area, for example, you can take a path behind the Barrandov Film Studios, which leads to a forest in the middle of which is an old chapel and cemetery for history lovers and a small zoo in another part for animal and bird lovers.
