Ashfield Lodge, Manchester

We live in a large apartment on the outskirts of Manchester in a semi-rural, desirable neighbourhood. Our apartment is one of 30 and is situated in a tree-lined gated community that overlooks a golf course. It is very quiet. We have a caretaker and fantastic neighbours who are always ready to help with any slight problem or piece of advice. It is a very safe close knit community.

Public transport is plentiful and is right on our doorstep. The city-centre is just a bus or tram ride away and you have use of our Audi A6 car. Being at the heart of Great Britain there is much to see and from where we live it is very simple to get to. Manchester International Airport is 8 minutes drive away from our apartment and we are not on the flight-path, the toll-free motorway (freeway/autoroute) is just a mile way. This will carry you to the historic cities of Chester and York, 1 and 2 hours away respectively, into the Lake District, home to the poet Wordsworth, the Peak District, mystical Wales is 1hour from us and the borders of Scotland just 2.5. With plenty of stately homes to view, lakes and rivers to sail on and fish, hills and meadows to walk, tea shops to visit both around us and further afield, you will never be bored. And, if you have to go to London it is only 2 hours 10 minutes away by train.

Locally, in Didsbury 15 minutes walk, there is plenty on offer with shopping, pubs, bars, restaurants, parks and gardens. For the dedicated golfer there are three 18 hole golf courses, one of which is overlooked by our apartment, the others are within easy walking distance. But if you want the high life Manchester is the place for you. Steeped in Victorian history, it is the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, it is a city that is easy to walk around. The stores boast all the major international designer brands, the cosmopolitan restaurants have a gourmet range of foods from all over the world and the old pubs are a wonder to behold. We have museums and art galleries ancient and modern, the gay village, great clubs for the dancers and coffee houses for those looking for a quiet rest.

My husband has recently retired. I am enjoying being retired having worked in education for some years. Our children flew the nest many years ago. We live alone in our comfortably equipped apartment. If you like music we have and extensive music collection - lots of soul, r&b and jazz and a first rate quality music streaming system.

We are now getting the hang of exchanging and we are looking forward to our next adventure in 2018.

I am sure you will have a special time here. Northern folk are wonderful.
