Spacious house with mature gardens in the County Down countryside

Our home is a spacious 4/5 bedroom chalet bungalow situated on a site of almost 2 acres in the rolling hills of the County Down countryside, a short drive from Downpatrick. The house can accommodate up to 10 people.

We have a large garden surrounded by mature trees and native shrubs which gives privacy and the feeling of being immersed in nature, while also providing a glimpse of Slieve Donard, the highest mountain in Northern Ireland. There are two large lawn areas for playing, several fruit trees and bushes and a small forested area to explore.

Within the larger garden is a smaller, fully enclosed, back garden with a large patio area, small Swiss cabin, flowers, shrubs and small lawn, ideal for very young children to play safely, and for barbeques/outdoor dining.

The house is equipped with wifi internet, two televisions, a large Bluetooth speaker, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Central heating (oil) is available at the flick of a switch but for those who prefer a traditional, homely ambience, we also have two wood-burning stoves. A wide range of toys, board games, video games and books are available to keep children of all ages entertained. For the musically inclined, a piano and an acoustic guitar are also on hand.

About the location

We are located in the heart of County Down countryside, with the nearby historic town of Downpatrick only a short (10 minutes) drive away. This is the burial place of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, whose feast day is celebrated all over the world on 17th March each year. Other nearby tourist attractions include the National Trust sites of Castle Ward and Rowallane Gardens, the Down Museum and the stunning Tyrella Beach, which has held the Blue Flag Beach award since 2011.

There are several excellent golf courses in the local area, including the internationally renowned Royal County Down, mentioned by Tiger Woods as one of his favorite places to play, Ardglass and St. Patrick’s Golf Club, Downpatrick. There are also multiple fishing locations, restaurants, pubs and villages to explore. The majestic Mourne Mountains range, voted the UK’s best view in a nationwide survey, and Northern Ireland’s best walking destination, is only 20 minutes drive away.

Belfast is a short 30 minute drive, the capital city of Northern Ireland and location of many major tourist attractions including Titanic Belfast, Belfast Castle, St. George’s Market and Botanic Gardens and several museums and historical sites.

The world-famous Giant’s Causeway is about 90 minutes drive away via the fastest roads; however, we strongly recommend to take your time and travel via the awe-inspiring Causeway Coastal Route which, due to the jaw-dropping scenery, was rated as one of the top five road trips worldwide.


For fans of Game of Thrones, many of the major filming locations are very close to our house, including Robb Stark’s Camp (Inch Abbey, 10 minutes drive), Riverrun (Quoile River, 10 minutes drive), Winterfell (Castle Ward and Audley’s Castle, 20 minutes drive) and The Haunted Forest (Tollymore Forest Park, 20 minutes drive). Several others can be easily visited in via a self-guided day trip and combined with visits to the Giant’s Causeway, the Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge and Bushmills Distillery. These include: Pyke Castle, House of Greyjoy (Dunluce Castle), The Road to Pyke (Murlough Bay), Dragonstone (Fairhead Cliffs and Downhill Beach), Storms End (Cushendun Caves), The Stormlands (Larrybane Quarry), The Iron Islands (Ballintoy Harbour) and The Dark Hedges (Armoy). Alternatively, tour operators give bus tours covering most of these filming locations.


Dublin, the capital city of Ireland, is less than 2 hours drive away. Three airports are easily accessible (Belfast City, Belfast International, Dublin International)
