Crofters

Our cottage, at the foot of the Mendip Hills overlooking a lake, started life in the early 1800s, probably as a schoolroom since its first name listed on the deeds is The Old Schoolroom. Its rooms are spacious. There is a fully-fitted kitchen (about to be given a facelift), dining room, glazed porch and comfortable sitting room on the ground floor while upstairs are two double bedrooms. We have a fully-tiled bathroom plus a tiled shower room with second toilet. The garden is effectively two courtyards, secluded and very pretty - the second one (behind the garage) has a sofa swing. There is also a sofa swing in the first courtyard plus table and chairs etc.
Our car is a chunky Peugeot 3008 and available to swap.

The cottage is in the oldest and prettiest part of the village, close to the parish church. It faces The New Inn which is the most attractive of three pubs in the village and has a garden overlooking Blagdon Lake, a well known spot for fly fishermen. This is a quiet neighbourhood - the biggest noise of the week is bell ringing practice on Tuesday evenings at the parish church behind us.

Basically, we are in our late (still lively and fun-loving) seventies and are just looking for some nice adventures before age or ill health catches up with us!

Thanks to COVID we have not done much long haul travel lately. Prior to that we have enjoyed exchanges in the West Indies and New Zealand, one in the spring and the other in the autumn. We have also exchanged south of Vancouver BC, the Australian Gold Coast, North Carolina and an earlier New Zealand exchange (North and South Island).
Finally, an admission, although you may have noticed from the pictures: Jenny runs a teddy bear sanctuary 😳 You will be required to be kind to them. ( I am joking but Jenny has a lot of teddies since I have given her one for Christmas every year since we got together 22 years ago. ie we downgraded in size to this property when we teamed up.
Other information: We are about 120 miles west of London but well placed near the motorway network to be anywhere in the UK within a day. We are seeking somewhere sunny but would also welcome offers from the UK or Europe in 2023 although not this year as we have other travels/holidays planned.
Bristol is half an hour away and has many attractions including several theatres, some pubs where you can find live jazz, a nice waterfront, a world famous suspension bridge - and many great places to eat. Bath, a world heritage Regency city with Roman ruins and modern hot springs, is also about half an hour away. Glastonbury and Cheddar gorge are also close. What’s not to like?
