Duplex in former Palacio - Granada home swap
The apartment is a duplex on the third floor of a listed period house in the centre of the city on a quiet street. Access is by marble staircase (no lift) 67 steps, and the bedroom is a mezzanine above the living room. The living room looks out on a large private courtyard and the view from the bedroom window is of the mountains. There is a separate kitchen and newly renovated bathroom. 72 sq metres approx.
Our Spanish neighbours are mostly older people and the building is a tranquil place. We have a doorman who cleans the common areas and tends the garden. There is no TV or internet access (Cafe Botanico and the Hotel Reina Cristina (Tablas) have wifi) but lots and lots of books about Granada and Lorca the local hero.
We are surrounded by lovely squares. The Botanic Garden is across the street as is the Law Faculty of the University.
The picture of the pool is the one at the University Sports Complex at Fuentenueva a stroll of approx.10 minutes from the apartment. It has a cafe/bar and you can hire a lounger for 2 euro and get 1 back when you return it.Sadly due to cutbacks It appears to be currently closed.
While the street itself is quiet you are a stones throw from main shopping streets, lively cafes bars and restaurants. Comfortable shoes are a must this is a place to stroll and savour.
There are lots of books about Granada and the Alhambra all in English. As Granada is a very cultural place there are many events concerts and exhibitions not all of which are well publicised so a trip to the Tourist office for up to date information is a must.
I suggest looking at alsa.es for bus timetables and booking if you are travelling from Malaga as there are buses from the Airport to Granada also granadainfo is another site worth a look.
Flights currently available with BA from London City Airport directly to Granada.
About the location
This part of Granada consists of some lovely houses built in around 1800 when Granada was booming as a sugar producer. Sadly the arrival of cheaper cane sugar put paid to that and what were "Palacios" became apartments or offices occupied by the University.
