Riverside eco-home - Lancashire home swap

Our home is located overlooking the river Lune, which is a few steps outside the garden gate. It is part of a development of 'eco-homes' built in 2012 by Lancaster co-housing, built to 'passive house' standards, with triple glazed windows and high levels of insulation - so its cosy all year round.

Downstairs is open plan with a spacious lounge and well equipped kitchen, plus a cloakroom/WC. On the first floor there is a bedroom at the front with a small (4ft) double bed and walk in wardrobe, a bathroom and a south facing second living room / bedroom with a double sofa bed and a balcony over the garden.

The house has oak floors and has been built with natural materials. It would suit a couple or single person, or family of three.

The garden faces south and there is a sitting area, lawn and flower beds, with a gate out to the riverside.

About the location

This is a wonderful area for getting out into the countryside. There are woodland walks from the door and we are also close to the sea, with Morecambe a ten minute drive or half an hours cycle ride away. The Forest of Bowland area of outstanding natural beauty is on the doorstep, Silverdale with its RSPB nature reserve a short drive away and the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales are only a little bit further.

Halton is a thriving village with a general shop, pub, newsagents, butcher, fish and fish shop and an excellent cafe. It is three miles from Lancaster, with its historic castle, market place, cinemas, theatre, shops and restaurants. There is a level cycle path from where we live straight into the city along the riverside path or along the canal towpath. There are lots of other villages nearby to explore, and the county town of Kirby Lonsdale is a twenty five minute drive through very pretty countryside.

Despite its rural location, where we live is only five minutes from junction 34 of the M6, so getting here by car is very easy. Lancaster is also only 2 hrs 40 minutes from London by train, and from there it is possible to get a bus or taxi to Halton.
