At low tide there are tidal flats which attract many bird species. Directly across the road are 9 hole golf course and a tennis court for you to use. There is also horse treks and hiking behind the golf course. Warm and cosy in winter via wood burner, open fire and heat pump. Located 25 min out of Christchurch. Also makes for a great base to explore the amazing South Island of New Zealand. Suits a couple, but 1 or 2 kids would work.
