A spacious 2 bedroom sandstone house with good harbour views
Our home is a heritage sandstone house built by a master mariner in the 1850's with long front and rear verandahs overlooking Mort Bay. The house is light-filled, relaxing and quiet with an established garden with frangipanis, native Australian plants and herbs. It is an easy house to live and work in.
The kitchen is contemporary and practical and you can eat either on the garden terrace or in the kitchen or dining room. The 2 large bedrooms both have a comfortable queen size bed with quality linen and towels. Each bedroom has a separate bathroom. The house is cool in summer and well heated with gas heaters on both floors in winter.
The living room is large and informal with a big screen digital TV and an excellent sound system. There's free high speed wireless internet and a landline for free Australian phone calls.
Transport is convenient - 10 minutes by ferry to the city from Balmain Wharf and 20 minutes to the city by bus. Excellent cafes and restaurants and Woolworths supermarket are all with an easy walk from our house.
It is not suitable for young children as it is a 2 storey home that has great views but is inappropriate for small kids.
About the location
Balmain is a hip inner city suburb located on the peninsula only 10 minutes by direct ferry from the centre of Sydney at Circular Quay. The cafes and small restaurants are mostly on Darling Street, the main road that stretches from the East Balmain ferry terminal to Rozelle. There is a Woolworths supermarket 10 minutes walk from our house as well a Saturday morning organic market nearby in Orange Grove (bus 445).
Balmain is great to explore by foot with its distinctive Victorian architecture as well as its early maritime and waterside industrial history. Public transport is frequent and both buses and ferries go regularly into the city from Balmain Wharf (F4) on Thames Street/
