The Yurt is a few metres from Rydal Beck which has a spectacular series of stunning waterfalls and plunge pools for swimming in. Situated by a waterfall and close to the grot this is an area that inspired the poet William Wordsworth who lived a short distance at Rydal Mount[open to public] for 30 yrs.

From the small hamlet of Rydal there are a wide variety of beautiful walks including the Fairfield horseshoe, Loughrigg and its Terraces, Red Screes etc.

Helvellyn and Striding Edge are a short distance. Lower level walks can take you around Rydal Water, Rydal Cave, Grasmere[lake] or you can follow the River Rothay to Ambleside.

Rydal Hall is a historic house now used as a Christian Centre that provides accommodation for individuals and groups. It is set in 30 acres of grounds and there is open access throughout. Enjoy the restored formal Mawson gardens, the reflective quite garden with its historic `grot` and waterfall vista or roam into the woodland with its unusual sculpture path. Take time out at the Old Schoolroom tea room or tea gardens looking onto Rydal Beck waterfalls. Wander up to the Organic garden or view the hydro electric scheme, fed from Rydal Beck, which powers the campsite.

There are an abundance of historic sites and National Trust properties within a short distance including Rydal Mount, Dove Cottage, Wray Castle, Allan Bank, Townend, Blackwell, Brockhole, RHS Holehird and a variety of other venues.

Rydal village is at the centre of the English Lakes. Whilst towns like Ambleside and Keswick heave with visitors the beautiful walled grounds of Rydal Hall can be a quiet haven with enough to explore in the immediate vicinity for every age group. From Ghyll scrambling, fell walking and running, swimming and woodland walks you can happily leave the car standing and enjoy the surroundings at your leisure.
