Village house in stunning mountain location - Southern Spain

Our house is in the southern foothills of the Sierra Nevada in the Granada Province of Andalusia, Southern Spain. It's a very old village house with traditional features such as chestnut beams, thick walls and slate floors.

The accommodation comprises of a large living room with kitchen-diner and sitting area. The focal point of the sitting area is the wood burning stove. From the kitchen, French doors lead out onto the terrace with a south-westerly aspect of the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea beyond. In clear conditions you can see the Atlas Mountains of Morocco from the terrace.

There are two bedrooms, one double and one twin, and a bathroom with shower.

On the ground floor there is a sitting room with sofa-bed. There's a TV, DVD player and a hard drive with films and children's programmes on.

The village itself has a handful of decent bars and restaurants - the Granada province is famed for giving free tapas - and the locals are very friendly!
The Alpujarras, Bubion and its neighbour Capileira in particular, are a great base for those who wish to go mountain biking, horse riding or hiking.
The beaches of Motril or Salobrena are a 40-minute drive and the wonderful Moorish city of Granada also about 40 minutes away.

The house is suitable for children but perhaps not crawlers/toddlers, though we go with our own two-year old.

Our three-bed cottage in a village near Oxford is also available for simultaneous swaps.

About the location

The Alpujarras are a mountainous region in the Granada province of Andalucia; the southern foothills of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada. Our village is one of the three white-washed villages in the Poqueira Gorge, know as the High Alpujarra. Due to its location and fabulous surrounding countryside, Bubion is a popular base for hiking, mountain biking and horse trekking.

Our house lies in the heart of the village, a short walk away from the church square. All the houses in this area are typically white-washed with flat roofs. The village has a network of steep, narrow, winding streets to explore all colourfully adorned with flowers. There are a handful of good restaurants and bars in the village.

Malaga is the closest airport unless you can find flights to Granada. You will need to hire a car. You can't park right outside our house but can park about a minute's walk away.
