The town of Twain Harte has a lake, a golf course, and 3 tennis courts. The town has an excellent grocery store. Twain Harte was the home of Mark Twain, author of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, and Bret Harte. Wonderful concerts with dancing under the redwood trees every Saturday night in summer.

The famous gold country town of Columbia is 25 mintues away. The town has been preserved so it looks the same as it did in 1860 when the goldminers would come to town to visit the saloons. People are dressed in original costumes. You can take a stage coach ride. The town of Murphys is full of wineries and restaurants.

Sonora, 15 minutes away, the first capital of California, is home to 4 outstanding repertory theatres. Quite a treat for a small mountain town.
