About the location

Curry Rivel is a thriving village in the heart of the Somerset Levels with picturesque village green, surrounded by an historic church. Set within unspoilt countryside it is situated on a ridge of high land 2.5 miles from the ancient market town of Langport and 12 miles from the city of Taunton.
The cottage is a stones throw from the high street where you will find a handy convenience store/mini supermarket open late 7 days a week, a lovely country style café which serves delicious breakfasts and lunches 6 days a week, and a gastro/destination pub less than 5 minutes walk away (http://www.pergolaontheroof.co.ukThe area is heaven for foodies: It’s a 3 minute drive to the Brown and Forest smokery, selling the finest smoked salmon and a whole range of delicious smoked foods including chicken, duck, lamb and trout. The smokery supplies Fortnum and Masons and Rik Stein, and also has an award winning restaurant.
10 minutes drive away you’ll find the famous Burrow Hill Cider Brandy farm and shop. In the ciderhouse, set amongst 160 acres of cider apple orchards, you can sample the cider and brandy straight from the oak vats, barrels and presses - all the paraphernalia associated with 150 years of cider making. Visitors are welcome to walk within the orchards, and to the top of the hill where you will see incredible views of the Somerset Levels.
Within 15 minutes is the Pitney Farm Shop, selling top quality organic meat and veg produced on the 100 acre mixed farm. The shop has won the Somerset Life ‘Best Farm Shop’ and ‘Best Organic Trader/Product’, as well as the Taste of the West Gold Award. You can have breakfast or a mean Sunday lunch at Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstalls River Cottage Canteen and Deli in Axminster, around 50 minutes away.
There is also plenty to please nature lovers in the area, with many local walks for people of all abilities and ages. We’re a 5 minute drive from the RSPB Swell Nature Reserve, an ancient woodland home to the south west’s largest heronry – between March and June is the best time to bird watch but you can explore the two nature trails and hide any time of year. The Blackdown Hills, an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is just 25 minutes away. The stunning tudor manor house Barrington Court, kept by the National Trust, is a 12 minute drive and is well worth an afternoon’s visit. The iconic Glastonbury Tor is half an hour away, and offers magnificent views of Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Wales.

SLIGHTLY FURTHER AFIELD
The cottage is situated within easy reach of the attractions of Devon, Dorset and Wiltshire. Within the hour you can be in the beautiful Dorset seaside town of Lyme Regis, or West Bay made famous by the ITV series Broadchurch. Exmoor National Park and Longleat Safari Park are also less than an hours drive away.
The beautiful ancient town of Bath is 1 hour and 15 minutes drive, as is the traditional seaside town of Torquay.

EATING OUT - Good Restaurants and pubs near by:

Living Pretty, Curry Rivel
About 2 mins walk from the cottage, walk towards the garage and turn left and it’s on the right hand side. Really great breakfasts Monday-Saturday. Also does a mean afternoon tea – but you will have to book as it’s very popular.

The White Hart, Somerton
Post code for Sat Nav: TA11 7LX. This is our favourite place near by for lunch/dinner. It’s what can be described as a ‘gastro-pub’. Food is consistently good – nice roasts, proper burgers, etc. Atmosphere is also really nice. It’s about a 20 minute drive from the cottage. Best to book

Lord Poulett Arms, Hinton St George
Post code for Sat Nav: TA17 8SE. A sophisticated gastropub with delicious food and wine about ½ an hours’ drive from the cottage. Good for a celebratory lunch. Will need to book
