Spacious, athmospheric flat , 5 minute walk from the beach

Ours is a large, modern, 3-bedroom, semi-detached house, on the outskirts of Orkney 's small capital, Kirkwall. There are country walks virtually on our doorstep, but the town with its amenities is only a 20-30 minute walk away.

There is a double car park and a large garden. All the bedrooms are large, but the available sleeping spaces are: 1 double bed, 1 single bed, plus 1 extra double mattress and a small double, shortish sofa bed. The bathroom has a bath and there is also an extra toilet.
We have just returned here after a year away and are currently redecorating and getting some more furniture, so some more photographs are due.

You may like to know that the facilities in the house include a good internet, a cooker and a washing machine, but no dryer, microwave or dishwasher, as we do not use these.

About the location

The charming town of Kirkwall has about 8,500 residents ( which does increase in the busy tourist season, May-September) and is on the Mainland, which is the largest of the islands in the Orkney archipelago. There are all the modern amenities you may need; however, most people travelling to Orkney come here for the solace and the beauty of the natural world; you can hike, shipwreck dive, snorkel, and watch whales, seals, and interesting island bird populations. Be sure to explore the remarkable Neolithic and Viking history of the place; Orkney has a Unesco World Heritage centre for these.

You get here via one of the ferry routes ( e.g., Aberdeen-Kirkwall or Scrabster- Stromness) or by plane.
