About the location

Sandgate is a lovely seaside village known for its antique shops and coffee shops. Both Folkestone and Hythe are walking distance along the coast path from our house and also within very easy reach are the Eurotunnel services at Folkestone just a few miles away, the ferry / passenger port at Dover and the high speed train link to London (54 minutes) meaning day trips to London and Paris are within easy reach.

Sandgate itself has several great pubs and restaurants and then in Folkestone and Hythe there are lots more options including the fantastic Harbour Arm in Folkestone with its pop up restaurants and champagne bar in the old lighthouse and the cafes in the Creative Quarter. Folkestone is well known for its art scene with the UK`s largest outdoor art collection and has some great independent shops.

There are some sensational fine dining restaurants within easy reach including Michelin starred establishments.

Further afield in Kent, the garden of England there is so much to do locally that most families that we know spend the summer break at home rather than going on holiday. Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, Dover Castle, Leeds Castle, Walmer Castle, Deal Castle, the resorts of Margate, Ramsgate, Broadstairs, Whitstable, Deal, Hastings are all within easy reach as is the cathedral city of Canterbury. Dungeness is a fascinating place and there are fantastic parks including the Coastal Park in Folkestone, The Warren and Samphire Hoe, lovely walks along the cliffs, the beach or in the woods - you will find plenty to do to keep all ages amused much of it within walking distance or just a 10 / 20 minute drive.
