Shrewsbury

We live in a recently converted 1930's presbyterian church which was designed by Cecil Fillmore (ARIBA). Recently converted into four apartments, ours is on the first floor at the front of the building looking out into the square around the old ruin of St. Chad's. The apartment is stylish and airy, retaining interesting and attractive features of the original building with large church windows and high wooden panelled ceilings taking centre stage.

There is a small landing at the top of the stairs and upon arrival at our entrance. By way of a hallway our living area is spacious and open plan. The kitchen has a grand arched window and like the other windows in the apartment has stone tracery and subtle stained glass. It consists of a series of white units and black marble tops with an island unit in the middle. There are two hobs, one gas and the other induction - eight rings in all. There are two fitted full size electric ovens, and fitted fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. We're keen foodies so there is a large selection of cooking equipment and crockery/cutlery etc., as well as a large cookery book section! A small but perfectly formed dining area has a round table and matching chairs of danish design. The sitting room is comfy and colourful with a large corner sofa and matching two seater plus other seating, sideboards and coffee tables. A spiral staircase leads to a mezzanine sitting room with T.V. [freeview and Sky].

As far as the two bedrooms go, the larger one has a decorative, wooden super kingsized bed and wooden furniture. There is an en-suite shower room. The smaller bedroom has a contemporary four poster kingsize bed and wooden furniture. There is a small built-in wardrobe and just outside and opposite there is a bathroom with bath and shower over.

Throughout our home there are several works of art with small and large paintings and prints and many ceramic pieces. Books are in abundance. We have recently decorated throughout.

About the location

The apartment is right in the centre of the historic market town of Shrewsbury which is the county town of Shropshire. It is in a quiet and pretty location amid a selection of fine Georgian houses and overlooks the old ruin of St. Chad's church which sits in a small grassy square with several mature trees. Despite its quietness we are very central, close to shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants while only minutes from the park and the River Severn which loops around the old town. The town has a large shopping area with many independent shops, a local museum, two cinemas, a theatre, several pubs - some with live music - and many other places to eat and drink. The two floor and award winning indoor market has a super array of stalls which include a host of eateries, a 'real' wine shop and a gin bar!

Shrewsbury has a fascinating history and some of the architecture dates back to the fifteenth century. It sits within our lovely and rural county of Shropshire which is on the borderlands of England and Wales. In an area of outstanding natural beauty, we have lovely hills in the south and huge and empty landscapes to the west. We have medieval and renowned Ludlow on one hand and the industrial heritage of Ironbridge on the other. While there are market towns to explore there are endless opportunities for walking, biking, horse riding, canoeing etc. The local station is well connected to Wales and the Midlands with London under three hours.
