Garden bungalow between hills and sea - Afife

Our home is in an old rehabilitated peasant`s house in the sprawling seaside village of Afife.

We have a large lawn area and on the other side across the lawn we have two guest homes.

Each guest home is a small self sufficient bungalow. Each bungalow has one bedroom with twin beds. A WC/shower. A living area with a sofa a dining table and a well equipped kitchenette with a fridge-freezer. Two electrical cooking hobs and a microwave.

The garden has a 5m X 10m unheated swimming pool. It also has a small corner for Barbecues and even a traditional bread/pizza oven. there is also a type of "common room" by the Barbecue corner of the garden where you can find games and pool mattresses, etc. It also has a kitchen counter in case you wish to have dinner there rather than carry your food form the barbecue to the bungalow. There is no TV but on request we can organise a DVD players and some DVD films. Wether you occupy one bungalow or the two bungalows (max. four people for two bungalows) you will be quite independent from us in the main house and if you wish we may never interact at all! There is a garage space for one small-medium car. Large cars do NOT fit our narrow lane and will have to be parked nearby.

How AFIFE compete with places like Paris, Copenhagen, S. Francisco etc.? Well we often offer you more time for example - we stay one week at your place and you stay two or even three weeks in Afife! Or we can be your guides and drive yo around and save you hiring a car, for instance. With goodwill and enough human interest in exchange and dialogue all is possible. Ive had exchanges with beautiful places in Boston and Monterey California, for instance!

About the location

Afife is a sprawling village with about two thousand inhabitants. The nearest town is Viana do Castelo an historical city well worth a visit. Oporto airport is about 75 km from our door (one hour`s drive) and Oporto/Porto city centre is circa 95 km from our door. The other nearest airport is in VIGO (Galicia - Spain) also about 75 km form our door going north to Spain. The Afife beach is a long stretch of sand about 5-7 kms long. Even in August when everything is crowded you can always find a remote area with no one in it. The ocean is quite cold and stormy in this coastal area. But there are so many beautiful beaches to explore even if you don`t plunge into the cold and wild Atlantic! Beautiful walks too. And if you bring or hire bikes you can avoid the main road by using the tractor paved roads in the fields by the coast. Afife is a good place to be if you are interested in exploring northern Portugal as well as southern Galicia where you can visit beautiful Bayona, or drive further north inland to historical and beautiful Santiago de Compostela. In Portugal you can visit Guimarães, Braga, Valença, Monção, Melgaço. There are a few golf courses around the Oporto area. This is a rural area and there is no public transport. A CAR IS ESSENTIAL.
