Cortijo Ceniza - Alhama de Granada home swap
Cortijo Ceniza (Ash Farm) is an eleven acre working eco-farm where we promise a relaxing and peaceful stay among our tranquil olive groves. The farmhouse is modern, homely and unpretentious and the rooms light, spacious and airy and stylishly furnished. This lovely family farmhouse is a secluded but not isolated mountain retreat uniquely placed with panoramic views from the bedroom balconies which overlook a national park and the snow capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada. The house has been built to face east to watch the sun rise from the bedrooms;there is a wrap around terrace so you can always find some shade or catch some rays. Two of the double bedrooms are en suite, the third has a lovely bathroom a few steps away, There is a private outdoor infinity style swimming pool (9.5m x 4.5m) fed by mountain spring water with a maximum depth of 1.7 metres so it is ideal for pool games such as water polo but also ensuring safe swimming. The outdoor pool shower and a brick built changing room with basin, toilet and power shower is handily sited near the pool and also has a beer fridge. Near the pool you will find a large outside kitchen with dining table and chairs. To ensure you relax you will find numerous outdoor sitting areas - gazebo, hammock, swing seats - for sunbathing or sitting with a good book. The landscaped flower gardens are stunning and sure to enhance your stay and include a meditation garden which faces the rising sun, perfect for yoga or dozing in a deckchair. If you are feeling a little more active, we have an outdoor table tennis table, swingball, pool volleyball, a small petanque court and outdoor darts.
About the location
Cortijo Ceniza is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the lovely Poniente Granadino region of Andalucia and is surrounded by the magnificent mountain ranges of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama.
If you want to go to the beach a spectacular mountain drive takes you to the pleasant seaside resorts of Nerja,(home to the famous Nerja Caves) Almunecar and El Herradura. Alternatively, if you would rather not travel to the coast the house is 4km from the stunning turquoise waters of the tranquil Lake Bermajeles; an ideal spot for bird watching, swimming or kayaking or enjoying a beer at the Chiringuito.
Our local village is a five minute drive away or a beautiful off road walk away and is unspoilt with a fabulous and very reasonably priced restaurant as well as a well stocked supermarket and a bakery. There are fiestas and carnivals all year round so you can soak up the local culture and atmosphere. Another way to soak up the local atmosphere is simply to sit outside a bar in the sun and fresh air and enjoy a tasty tapa which will be provided free with your drink.
There are many tapas bars in the nearest town, Alhama de Granada, which has been described by The Rough Guide as an, "unsung gem." Alhama has a picturesque and well-preserved atmospheric Arab Quarter and hosts a number of music festivals and concerts throughout the year. The town is also home to the famous healing hot springs which first brought the Romans to the area. Alhama also has a stunning natural gorge which is ideal for nature lovers with a very pleasant walk through it to and from the town.
A little further afield, the city of Granada is a must to visit,not just for shopping, delicious tapas, tours and events such as horse shows and international jazz festivals, but because it is home to the incomparable Alhamabra Palace -not to be missed.
In summary, the house provides an ideal base to visit "real" Spain but also with the opportunity to visit lovely beaches, enjoy ski-ing or explore fascinating ancient towns and cities. The area is one of oustanding natural beauty and therefore ideal for photography, painting, horse riding, touring, walking, star gazing or just chilling!
