Ash House

Our house is an unusual detached newbuild house situated in a lane of twelve new houses at the lower edge of a large new development on the side of a hill. The site is still under construction but our section of the development is complete.

The house has lawned gardens front and back and is set back from the road with a drive with parking for four cars. At the front is a quiet London street with lowbuild flats opposite, but at the back are large windows overlooking peaceful open countryside with a beautiful view of Totteridge Valley, a protected green belt area full of wildlife. There are lovely walks all around.

The house was completed in December 2019 and is very cosy with underfloor heating and double-glazing throughout, it is on 3 floors. The first floor has four double bedrooms: the study and main bedroom with en-suite shower room overlook the valley at the back and there are two other bedrooms, one with twin beds and a cot and the other a single bed atht front. All have built in cupboards. There is a family bathroom with bath and shower. The ground floor features an entrance hall with double doors leading to a spacious living area. This has sliding glass windows overlooking the garden and beyond that the wooded valley and hillside opposite. There is a terrace to the side. It is used as a music room and library and there is a Bechstein 6ft grand piano in one corner. There is a small study, a shower room and the garage also on this floor. The utility area, with Miele Washing machine and drier is on this floor, as is the large boiler which provides constant ample hot water. A straight staircase with oak banisters and handrails leads down to the lower ground floor, where the windows all along open out onto a large patio and garden. The kitchen on one side has bifolding doors that open up completely making a large entertaining space. The kitchen is spacious with a dining area and equipped with all new Miele appliances, including a generous sized induction hob and wine cooler. Across the corridor is a snug television room with sliding doors to the garden and comfortable leather seating for 5 people, plus a large screen, and books and games. Most rooms have electric blinds whih open remotely. There is a spacious washroom and loo on this floor.

The patio has garden furniture for 10 people. There is a garden shed, landscaped borders and a lawn the size of a tennis court, suitable for ball games. A robot mower cuts the grass daily.

About the location

Our area, Mill Hill East, is semi-rural and there are suburban roads opening on to open countryside and several farms around. There is a lot of horse riding in the area and people are often seen riding horses on the roads, being avoided by suburban buses.

In spite of this semirural location and the lovely fresh air, communications to central London are very good, and the tube ride into London Euston or King`s Cross takes about 25 -30 minutes. Mill Hill East has its own underground station served by local buses which is very convenient for working in the city, or visitng as a tourist.

There is a famous school nearby: Mill Hill School which has many distinguished alumni, and extensive beautiful buildings and grounds.

Facilities in the are include two good pubs with open spaces, an outstanding garden centre which is a friendly community hub, a golf club and a Children`s farm. Enjoying London`s outstanding cultural life is very easy via tube, with its enormous wealth of opera, ballet, shows, museums, art galleries, theatres, concerts and, not least, shopping.
