In de Roos (in the rose)

We live in a lovely terraced house on the waterside: the canal from Bruges to Damme. The house is build in 1933 and is furnished more or less in the style of the interbellum. I named the house `In de roos`, after the rose blooming next to the front door, and the rose in the garden. In Dutch (our mothertongue) `in de roos` means also: `bang in the middle`, as our house is ;-)

About the location

Bruges, Unesco world heritage city, needs no further explanation. Our house is located just outside the old medieval center. In half an hour walking or barely ten minutes by bike, you`re in the middle of the market place. Bruges has several musea, busy shopping streets, old buildings, history, guided tours by boat, bus or horse cart... Damme on the other hand is a hidden treasure, just a quarter away on bike along the cyclepath that follows the famous canal.

Trains go to Gent, Brussels and Antwerp, to the seaside (Ostend, Knokke, Blankenberge) and even the Netherlands (Sluis) are nearby. Our little country has a lot to offer!
