Shore Cottage

Shore Cottage is right down by the Tay estuary, by a small pebbly beach overlooking the sea to Dundee. Balmerino is a beautiful little village, with an ancient ruined Cistercian Abbey. On Fife Coastal Path with woodland walks and coastal views in all directions. The house has been fully renovated and is heated with a modern gas boiler & two log burning stoves at either end of the house. There is a big bath sitting right beside the bathroom window and a large garden with apple & pear trees – very private, surrounded by high hedges and full of birds all year round. It's a great sun trap. I almost live outside in the summer. Neighbours are very friendly.. I have two cats who live outside all summer. Great if exchange person/family can feed them a few pouches of cat food each day.

About the location

North Fife is quiet, single track roads, friendly people and wee villages. You can be in total silence here - apart from sound of waves and birds - but still just 40 minutes cycle or 15 mins drive from centre of Dundee with new V&A museum amongst other attractions. Car required unless you are serious cyclist! Nearest bus stop 30 minute uphill walk away! Many golf courses around and St Andrews 25 mins drive. Munros Mayar& Driesh 50 mins away. I swim from beach by house but also Broughty Ferry (30 mins) Tidal pools & saunas Cellardyke, Pittenweem and inland Eden Springs. A calmer, less expensive and friendlier (!) base for St Andrews sight seeing. Edinburgh just over an hour away or take train in from nearby Leuchars station. V well placed for exploring with quiet retreat at end of the day.
