About the location

White Cedars is our place to unwind, just a breath away from the sea. From gentle sunrise over the eastern hills to sunset over our empty beach it never fails to shift us down a gear or two. It's a perfect nook from which to visit the wineries, cafes and markets of McLaren Vale and the Fleurieu Peninsula or strike out to the theatre, galleries, music and dining of the city.

Most days find us relaxing in the shade of the garden, then slipping out down the path to the beach, below the cliffs, which is all empty sky and sand. Summer public holidays aside, the beach is tranquil with a gentle mix of horse riding, dog walking and early morning boats fishing offshore. Summer is perfect for swimming and diving in the expansive, clear-blue waters. Post office, general store and cafe with barista coffee, seafood and takeaway pizza... all to hand.

These lands are still home to the Kaurna people and are the site of a notable freshwater spring. This also drew the British colonists to settle in this area, noted on a commemorative plaque near the Esplanade. Sellicks Beach originated in 1925 as the "Sellick’s Beach Estate" developed by Aldinga pastoralists George & Robert Herrick and lost it's apostrophe along the way. You'll cross Herrick Street on your way to the beach.
