1920’s detached house

Our home was built in 1923. It is detached with a large driveway to the front and two large copper beech trees. And a medium sized garden with furniture for outdoor eating and other seating. It is west facing and a sun trap. The house has 3 double bedrooms, one en-suite, with copper bath and shower, a first floor family bathroom and a ground floor shower room. There are two further sing,e bedrooms, one in the attic with a single bed and single truckle bed underneath. There are 3 living rooms, two with tv’s, one with hifi, piano and original useable fireplace. There is a kitchen diner with a large range cooker and extendable table for larger gatherings. Additionally, there is a small library and walk through conservatory. Our house is the opposite of minimalist and we love vintage finds which are doted about with original art and artefacts.

About the location

Felixstowe was developed largely in the Edwardian era, as a seaside holiday report, so has lots of grand housing. There is a small ‘fishing village’ area called ‘Felixstowe Ferry’, where you can get a 10 minute foot ferry ride to Bawdsey, where radar was developed. Languard Fort is the at the other end, overlooking Harwich, where you can get a 15 minute foot ferry to the historic town of Harwich. The house is 2 streets back from the high street, which extends all the way down to the sea front. The closest point to the sea front is an 8 minute walk. You can take the kayaks directly down to the beach on the pavement, on wheels easily. The high street has lots of cafes and independent shops, a few wine bars and restaurants (the Mediterranean restaurant Bencotto is by far the best eatery). The sea front has a lovely promenade, beautiful gardens and includes the Spa Pavilion, if you fancy catching show. Felixstowe is ideally located for Suffolk and Essex gems, being 30 minutes from Constable Country (Flatford Mill), 35 minutes to Snape Maltings (founded by Benjamin Britten) for the beautiful reed bed walks, retail village of antique shops, art galleries and concert hall. Woodbridge, Framingham, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and Southwold are in easy reach along the A12, which is peppered with antique shops along the way. The Cities of Norwich and Cambridge are around 80 minutes away. You can also catch a train in Felixstowe to London which is around 90 minutes by train, changing at Ipswich.
