Charming terraced cottage perfect for young family, couple or artist retreat

Charming and cosy rural back-to-back terraced house on the Yorkshire Moors near creative Hebden Bridge with great walks on your doorstep & excellent transport links to major cities. The house is fantastic for a small family (like ours) but would also be perfect for a couple or an artist/writer retreat as the children’s rooms can be easily closed off, leaving it feeling like a 1-bed cottage with study/music/studio room.

*more photos coming soon*

The ‘street’ of 4 houses actually climbs up between two fields and has no road as such; rather there is a path between the houses and gardens, with on street parking at bottom of the terrace. Entrance leads directly into open plan lounge, dining and kitchen with parquet floor, wood burning stove and views overlooking the fields and old textiles mill (now apartments). There is also a small cellar/pantry. Kitchen has all standard amenities plus coffee machine and dishwasher. First floor includes main bedroom with king size bed, small bathroom with over-bath shower and study/music room, including an electric piano. A small door then leads up to the kids’ floor, with shared landing.l, two cosy kids rooms under the eaves (one single bed, one double) and a secret den between them! The house has fantastic views and lots of light.

There is a small garden out the front with sofa, pizza Oven and barbecue. It looks out onto a field (which you can also access via footpath). We have a Labrador: she won’t be there during your stay but means house not suitable for those with allergies.

*please note* We will be doing some work to the house in the first half of 2026 including updating the kitchen and bathroom and finishing our renovation of the attic (which we have just split into two rooms) including installing velux windows in one of the rooms.* At this point the baby’s room will become the study/music studio as she moves upstairs. We will update photos as completed.

About the location

Pecket Well is a hamlet situated above the quirky, creative and inclusive town of Hebden Bridge. Our house overlooks views of the Yorkshire Moors and there are a myriad of moorland walks and hiking/biking trails from our doorstep. It is also a 15 minute drive from Haworth, home of the Brontë family, where Wuthering Heights was set. Pecket Well has a pub and 3 buses into Hebden an hour (bus stop directly outside our house). The closest corner shop is a 25 minute walk away at the next village on ‘the tops’, Old Town, where there is also a post office, cafe, cricket club, golf club, artists studios and music venue. There is a small supermarket in Hebden Bridge, larger supermarkets are about a 20/25 min drive away or you can order home delivery.

Hebden Bridge is a valley town of about 4,500 people. For such a small place it is very vibrant - plenty of independent shops, bars and restaurants, independent cinema and theatre and nationally renowned music venue, several arts festivals throughout the year. It is great for kids - big park and canal walks and a well stocked library, with local soft play etc all near by. It is popular with tourists - The town has a very interesting history and has also featured in several film and Tv shows due to its character (it features unique terraced houseing where houses sit atop each other due to its steep valley hills). It has excellent train links to Bradford (25mins), Manchester (35mins) and Leeds (45mins). The nearest direct train to London is from Halifax (itself 1 local train stop away) and takes 2h30ish from there. We love where we live and believe it is a truly special place in terms of rural landscape and architecture, sense of community, vibrant culture and transport connections - for such a rural spot in feel you are really not far from some brilliant cities. For those who enjoy a wild swim - Gaddings Dam (an old reservoir which was bought by local community and is now ‘the highest beach in the UK’) is a 20 min drive away and sits atop the Yorkshire moors near the neighbouring town of Todmorden. The National Trust site and beautiful wood ‘Hardcastle Crags’ is also a 5 minute drive from the house.
