Birdswood view - detached house in the beautiful and historic Peak District village of Eyam
This is our family home. Detached dormer bungalow on the edge of the village with lovely rural views. Three bedrooms and family bathroom upstairs. Downstairs there is a large kitchen diner, a sitting room and another bedroom with twin beds, or they can be combined to make another double. There is a downstairs loo. We have a large garden with table and chairs to eat outside and an adjoining field with a swing.
We have two friendly guinea pigs who live in the sitting room and like to sit on peoples lap and eat vegetables. We can move them out to a friends or give instructions on how to care for them depending on what is preferred.
We are a family of six. Two parents, two teenage girls and two guinea pigs. My daughters are not sure yet about people staying in their rooms so bedroom wise we are offering the master bedroom and the downstairs spare bedroom.
About the location
The village of Eyam is quiet and beautiful in the lovely Hope Valley part of the Peak District.
There are many walks from the doorstep with exceptionally good pubs on the route, including the Barrel inn at Bretton, the Bulls Head at Foolow and Chequers inn at Froggat.
For tourist attactions we have the town of Bakewell and also Chatsworth House nearby. In the village itself we have a great park and lovely cafes including village green cafe and eyam tearooms. For those who enjoy sculpture we have Hannah Bennets sculpture garden in the centre of the village which is full of incredible work from a range or artists. Eyam has its own museum telling the story of how the villagers prevented the plague outbreak spreading to nearby villages through social distancing.
For those interested I can tell you the best wild swimming spot nearby or you could head to hathersage outdoor pool. There are also a wealth of rock climbing locations within reach. There is a glider club a 10 minute drive away if you fancy watching the planes being catapulted into the sky or perhaps booking a flight yourself!
For public transport you can get the train to Sheffield and then hop on the 65 bus all the way to Eyam, which runs about 4 times a day.
If you like a quiet rural spot with great walks this is the place for you.
