I love my house and am very excited to be sharing it with others! I have lived here nearly 30 years and will have to be carried out... It`s a homely, well-maintained Grade 2 listed townhouse dating from approximately 1780. All my guests say "I slept so well here...". The accommodation is over 3-4 floors. There is no ground floor toilet. Furniture can be flexibly arranged on the ground floor, enabling the front room to be a snug with open fire, working space, dining room for six, or a double bedroom. The main living room has a superb hifi and Smart TV. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped for the gourmet visitor. On the first floor you`ll find a double room with tv and (an occasional single bedroom/work space) leading to the main shower room and my only outdoor space - a roof terrace above the kitchen where you can sit in the sun or harvest herbs/salad leaves/courgettes in the summer. On the second floor there`s a family bathroom, a superking bedroom and a double. By special arrangement the double room can be swapped for the attic light and airy studio double with views. Though I am technically new to house-swapping, I have done informal swaps, hosted single mature women from all over the world, and hosted writing retreats for up to three other women, hence the availability of so many desk spaces. The house is warm in winter and the lower floors cool in summer (granite walls offering natural cooling). Though not naturally set up for children (no child-size furniture, crockery or toys) if you bring your own essentials and are safety-vigilant (open bannister to second floor) I can make children welcome with bespoke stories/treasure hunts. The house is however totally unsuitable for dogs - Sorry! After the hall it`s a shoe-free home. Bicycles can be stored in the ground floor front room (if you don`t want it set up as a bedroom or dining room).

About the location

It`s a wonderful area - a delightful small town with independent shops, food emporiums, antique dealers, a thriving Arts Centre (music most nights of the week), cafes, and good bus links to Newton Abbot, Totnes, Exeter and Plymouth. You don`t really need to leave Ashburton to get all the groceries you need for a week`s stay - hence my home`s popularity for writers` retreats. There`s a summer open air swimming pool and a recreation ground with a skate park. You can be walking on Dartmoor within a 15 minute drive, and at the beach in 25 minutes (Teignmouth/Shaldon the nearest).
